
Network meeting of Kurdish institutes and academic organizations
We hold a European network meeting of Kurdish institutes and academic organizations on 11 and 12 November 2017.
The introduction of the participants highlighted already at the beginning of the meeting the professions and competences of participating organizations and persons which we need to unite.
The focus of the first day was on the evaluation of academic work in the fields of Kurds and Kurdistan in Europe and the requirements on science and research. After a critical introdaction by a member of Kurd-Akad, a kick-off speech of Kurdish institute Germany about „The Kurdish institutes in Europe“ followed. A representativ of Austrian Society for development of Kurdology spoke about development of scientific publications about Kurds. The Kurdish Institute Stockholm and the Union of Teachers from Kurdistan took a closer look at the educational task of academic organizations. A representative of association for democracy and international law spoke about the legal Status of Kurds in the context of human rights and international law. An academic for peace informed about akademic outflow from Turkey and its results. All kick-off speeches identified weak points and gave future-oriented impulses. The last session of the first day was particularly interesting. On the kick-off speech of the International Initiative Freedom for Öcalan – Peace in Kurdistan we discussed about the range of research and the necessity of sociological analysis, especially with regard to alternative approaches.
The focus of second day was on perspectives for an academic institutionalization. Following the corresponding kick-off speech of Kurd-Akad, the participants discussed about options for establishing Kurdish Studies at universities. Afterwards the participants concentrated on the important issue of Networking. The kick-off speach of the Society of Ezidi Academis gave new impulses at this point.
The participants agree: The network meeting is an important step for the pooling of diverse professions and competences and generate synergy effects for Kurdish community in Europe and Kurdistan. The participants agree: The Networking should be intensified. Kurd-Akad issued an invitation for 2019.
