While police raids last night in Turkey 11 members of parliament of progressive HDP, with 59 representatives third largest party in parliament, have been detained.
Already in May Erdogan initiated the lifting of immunity of MP´s. With the arrests that includes HDP Co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yüksekdag the political lynch law of Erdogans rulers has reached a new dimension. Just last week co-majors of 3 million metropole Diyarbakir were arrested. The HDP has especially become target of government after their success in election last year, where they crossed the 10% threshold and thusly put the kibosh on Erdogans dream of a presidential system.
With the measures after the doubtful military coup Erdogan and his followers have leaded Turkey finally to dictatorship. All rights and liberties were overridden per decree.
Parallel to these developments domestically Turkey forced the policy of expansion to bordering countries Syria and Iraq, a development that is not only dangerous for region.
As Network of Kurdish Academics we condemn the arrest of HDP MP´s as well as all restrictions of rights and liberties. Turkey urgently needs a course of democratization and not of expansion.
