+++ Board meetings
The first board meeting of the newly elected board was hold on 31 May 2018. Behind the distribution of board seats, the conferences 2019, the regional meetings and some future, partly new projects were further topics of the board meeting.
+++ Regional meetings
The extension as well as intensification of the regional meetings are essential not only for decentralisation, but also in order to involve more members and interested people in the work, to generate new ideas and realize more projects.
Following regional meetings were held in this quarter: 1 and 25 May and 9 June in Frankfurt, 5 and 27 May and 24 June in Bremen, 19 May and 9 June in Hamburg, 1 June in Bochum, 26 June in Cologne.
+++ Conference of Kurdish jurists and lawyers in Europe
We held a conference of Kurdish jurists and lawyers in Europe on 9 June in Cologne. The conference was organised in cooperation with the Association for Democracy and International Law Maf-Dad and the Initiative of Lawyers from Rojava. The cooperation is a result of the pan-European network meeting of Kurdish academic organisations and institutes in November 2017. Members of the Association of Ezidi lawyers and the Association of German – Kurdish lawyers also participated in the conference, last one with a speech on the very important issue of the Ezidi. Behind analyses of the juridical challenges and problems in Kurdistan as well as the Kurdish issue in Europe, the evaluation of juridical work and organisations and future perspectives were main topics of the conference. Expert on international law, Prof. Dr. Norman Paech, and Eren Keskin, lawyer and co-chair of the Human Rights Association IHD held the opening speeches.
+++ Conference in the European Parliament
In cooperation with the European Turkey Civic Commission, the Kurdistan National Congress and the Kurdish Institute of Brussels we organised a conference in the European Parliament on „The Turkish invasion in Kurdistan & Academics discuss their vision for a democratic solution to the crisis in the Middle East“. The conference was supported by the political groups of The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) and the Greens / European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA),
+++ Conferences 2019
First preparatory meetings for the conferences in NRW and in Frankfurt took place. You will find detailed information in the following newsletter. There will be hold a conference also in Hamburg in the first quarter of 2019.
+++ Networking with Kurdish academics organizations
The European network meeting in November 2017 led to a cooperation with the Kurdish Institute and the Association of Kurdish Teachers. After some meetings for exchange, we are planning a conference on mother tongue and multilingualism. A first preparatory meeting was hold on 3 June.
+++ Kurd-Akad educational institutes
The professionalization of our work is also important for an intensification of working priorities in the field of research, science and education. Networking between Kurdish and correlating scientists, especially in our network is also necessary. For this reason, we decided to establish an educational institute. The scientific advisory board consists of young academics. The official opening will be hold on a symposium with Kurdish scientist at our annual reception.
+++ Kurd-Akad science award
After awarding the first honorary prize 2017, we are pleased to award the first science prize. Thereby we want to award especially young academics with an excellent expertise in their research field.
+++ Kurd-Akad NL
A second successful meeting with Kurdish academics from the Netherlands was hold on 28 April. A commission was founded that will forward the work for an academics and professionals network in the Netherlands. A first meeting of the group took place in June.
+++ PolitikArt
We published our first German edition of PolitikArt, magazine of daily newspaper Yeni Özgür Politika on 2 June.
+++ Elections in Turkey
Regarding the elections in Turkey, we published a statement and called for support of HDP as the only progressive and democratic alternative.
We would be pleased if more academics and professionals will contribute their competences and professions to our network.
