Jin Jiyan Azadî
Jin Jiyan Azadî
With the murder of the Kurdish woman Jîna Amini by security forces in Iran, a new wave of protest against the regime began. The state is acting with the utmost brutality against people who are standing up for elementary basic rights.
The guiding slogan of these protests is Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (Woman, Life, Freedom), which was first declared by the Kurdish women’s movement in 2006, following the women’s liberation / gender justice oriented paradigm of the freedom movement.
This slogan, which meanwhile stands for rebellion against patriarchy and for solidarity worldwide, is a thorn in the side of all reactionary forces, including Turkey. This is the context in which the journalist and academic Nagihan Akarsel, an advocate of women’s rights and representative of Jineolojî (women’s science), was murdered in Silemani by the Turkish secret service.
Now, according to the guiding principle Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, it is necessary to connect the struggles globally and intersectionally so that life and freedom become a reality for all people.
