“Decolonizing Knowledge and Science. Breaking Isolation and Weaving Solidarity with the Universities of North and East Syria/Rojava”
On Thursday, 20th February 2025, 10 am – 4:30 pm CET
Dear colleagues,
Please find attached the poster and programme of the online symposium titled “Decolonizing knowledge and science – Breaking Isolation and Weaving Solidarity with the Universities of North and East Syria/Rojava” to be held on Thursday, 20th February 2025, 10 am – 4:30 pm dedicated to Ronîza Mihemed, an undergraduate student of the University of Rojava who lost her life during the peaceful protests against the Turkish invaders’ attacks on the Tishreen Dam.
Following our Dialogue event held online in May 2024, and call for contributions for the Symposium in October 2024, this online symposium aims to consolidate and strengthen the solidarity with the three universities of North and East Syria (UNES) / Rojava, supporting broader recognition of their work and mission.
The Symposium aims to create effective networking and working structures for international cooperation that will strengthen support for the alternative universities of DAANES and their foundational project on Decolonizing Knowledge and Science. In the current context, it is essential to break the isolation of the universities of Rojava, caused by attacks and atrocities of the Turkish state and other imperialist actors, as well as the power structures of the global academic system with its geopolitical, racist and sexist epistemic violence.
The symposium will focus on how solidarity can be achieved on the following issues: International Teaching Cooperation, International Research Cooperation, Access to Resources and Equipment for UNES Universities-Translation of Educational Materials,
Recognition/Accreditation of Universities in the DAANES.
Please feel free to forward this announcement to anyone who may be interested.
Kind regards
Executive Board
