Letter to the Director General of the OPCW
Dear Director-General,
In the context of Turkey’s recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which violated international law, there have been increasing complaints of the use of chemical weapons. These are serious allegations that require urgent investigation by independent institutions.
We would like to kindly ask your organisation, which monitors compliance with and implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, to investigate these allegations. Finally, NATO member Turkey has also ratified the treaty.
We are aware of how sensitive and at the same time complex the issue is, also in the overall political context. This makes clarification all the more important.
We hope that the issue will be on the agenda at the 98th meeting of the OPWC Executive Committee.
We look forward to hearing from you. We are also available for a personal meeting, e.g. online.
Yours sincerely
Kurd-Akad
